STUDIO 5/6 Qatar and Elite Paper Recycling Host Youth Program

STUDIO 5/6 Qatar and Elite Paper Recycling Host Youth Program at Workinton M7 for Qatar Sustainability Week 2022

At Workinton, we believe in the urgent need for sustainability and the imperative to play our role in protecting the planet. It was an honour to host the “Upcycled Bots”, a youth program in partnership with Studio 5/6 Qatar and Elite Paper Recycling for Qatar Sustainability Week 2022, a week-long campaign by Earthna Center for a Sustainable Future.

Students aged 11-14 joined us at Workinton M7 for hands-on workshops on sustainability, upcycling, and creating robots from electrical waste to promote awareness about sustainability in Qatar. The four-day seminar was followed by a hackathon, where we saw the students display great skill and imagination.

Qatar Sustainability Week is a National Campaign that aims to engage the community in sustainability-related activities to achieve the global sustainability goals outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030. It is a great medium to promote the country’s sustainability targets and encourage community engagement with relevant stakeholders.

Studio 5/6 is a community program set up by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to nurture kids and youth as digital learners by sharpening their 21st-century learning skills as they develop in an ever-changing digital environment.

Participants first visited Elite Paper Recycling to learn about the process of paper recycling, then attended extensive 2-hour sessions for three days on how to disassemble electrical components and understand how the components work, ultimately participating in a hackathon.

During the Hackathon, the participants made their own projects using the electronic components and recycled cardboard donated by Elite Paper Recycling with the projects being judged and a winner announced.
